Desanders are what larger diameter hydro-cyclones are typically referred as, and will be the next step in solids removal after an initial scalping shaker pass. Desanders are capable of handling large flow rates, up to 500 gpm per cone, but do not offer as fine of a cut. The underflow will be recirculated over a shaker and processed again while the overflow will be free to move on to the next stage, typically a desilter.

DESILTERS

Desilters are what smaller diameter hydrocyclones are typically referred to as, and will generally be used directly after a desander. Occasionally desanders will not be necessary and the desilter will operate immediately after the scalping pass. While desilting cones can achieve a finer cut, down to 20 micron, than desander cones they cannot process at as high of a rate per cone and are headered together in order to meet the desired throughput. The Underflow will be recirculated over a shaker and processed again while the overflow will be free to move on to the next stage, whether it’s a centrifuge, chemical treatment, or a finished product.
